I'm Making Memories, Not Just Dreaming

What a week I've had ... I started it out on a low and ended it on a high. I was pretty frustrated with how I was feeling and how I couldn't seem to change it... This week was a learning and growing week for me.  I've been talking with a guy, somebody I talked to a couple of years ago. I won't be discussing him openly if and until this becomes something more, even then I won't be gushing about how lucky I am over social media.

I don't need a man to make me happy... of course I want someone special to spend my life with but I can guarantee he will have to put the work in to prove he's serious. I want a real commitment, I'm not a teenager, I won't be endlessly dating, nor do I plan to live with any man until he figures out what he wants. Why? Because I'm a girl that has finally learned that I will not accept less.
What brought me to this point? Friends and acquaintances who were posting about how lucky they were to have so and so or stating how so and so loved them and how blessed they were because of this... I actually sat back and thought what? You know what I thought when I read these things? I felt sad for these women who seemed to think they had to thank the men they were with for loving them... my personal thought was, how about loving themselves first?

I say this because I was there before... I remember how lucky I felt that 'he' wanted to date me, I was over the moon... wow... I thought so little of myself. Today I'm in a much different place ... I had my eyes opened in the past year. My wish is that we all remember our worth and stop gushing about how lucky we are to have a man. We all deserve love and finding/having love doesn't make us luckier... posting about it endlessly makes us sound insecure.
My life is pretty full with Valentina, work, exercise, blogging... the list is long. Although I have not ruled out love, I have to tell you that the guy that wins my heart will have to be pretty special... I want an equal partner, one that sees how incredibly special I am too... I plan to make memories, not just dream about what I want in my life...

  2. I agree that keeping a relationship quiet on social media is a good thing. I rarely talk about my husband. But aside from that I've seen some single ladies post pictures of their new love (one after another) and I can't imagine what that must feel like when it didn't work out. Glad you had a good week. ;-)

  8. This post is like a beautiful athem to ourselves. I know how fantastic is the feeling of being in love and being love back, but if we don't truly love and accept ourself, the breake up can break more then just our relationship, and we can spend monts wondering where did we go wrong. But if we're honest with ourselves and acept us the way we are, we can get our anything.
Hope it works for you the best way possible, and even if it doesn't turn into anything more, I hope you in best way embrace this time of happiness.
Love, and wish you another great week.

  10. Oh! Can't wait to hear more about this guy ;)
I absolutely agree, I guess finding your match is a dream, but even if you don't, it's perfectly okay. Love yourself and the people around you...if things are meant to be, then they are. <3

  11. Couldn't agree more. My break through point came when I realized that I want to be with a man for who HE IS, and not for how he makes me feel, e.g. needed, wanted, lovable. Once I understood the difference (and I, too, was happy being on my own) I was ready to meet a man like my husband. For me it was all about truly knowing my own values and living accordingly, rather than loosing myself in my partner’s story and life, trying to ’save’ them. Having said this, my tendency to get lost is still a part of who I am and what I love about my husband is that he sees me even during times when I don’t. That’s how I know he’s a keeper :) I love where you are going with all this, Launna, I can sense that you've worked hard and become stronger and secure in who you are and you certainly deserve to meet a man who sees and loves you for who YOU are. And even if that doesn't happen, then you know that you can also be happy and ok on your own, you have a full life with or without a partner. That's the sweet spot. xo

  14. When I started to read your post the first and most important thing to catch my eye was this ...
"The best thing about memories is making them"

This is so true and you have a life that is "pretty full with Valentina, work, exercise, blogging... the list is long" Cherish each day and it's memories and just see what happens.

    Have a good week

    All the best Jan

  16. Wonderful post, and something I really needed to read today, so many heartfelt thanks. Wanting to be loved for who we are is so important, and being able to love ourselves first is vital for that (and definitely not an easy thing to realize!).

  17. Hi Launna not sure if my past comment went through. I was basically saying I get annoyed people posting about their "wonderful relationships on Facebook when in reality their relationship is not what it's cracked up to be. I almost never post about my relationship. And you are right... love yourself first it's so important.

  29. This is great Launna... I agree...you should have lots going on in your life to make sure your happiness is prioritized by things that make you who you are... and then a guy is added to the picture and he's his own little area of happiness in an entire sea of joy. Glad you are confident and realize this... the women who hang onto a man like nothing else matters in life are, simply put, pathetic.

  59. Launna, you're comment on my blog filled me with warmth and happiness!! I am SO thrilled for you that you've met someone and are opening up that wonderful heart of yours. You truly deserve all of the happiness in the world and I wish you nothing but the very best!! He's a lucky, lucky man to have such a gem like you!!! Congratulations and I look forward to reading all about him when the time is right - although I completely agree with you that the rushing etc is a bit much. I do feel blessed to have Sam even though since last night we've been in a HUGE arguement..... it'll blow over eventually... and Sam is blessed to have me. It's a special thing to find someone to share you life with and that is the blessing - but a man or a woman should not define us. Not all all. Well done and your spiritual growth is excelling!!! :)

  61. Launna!! Omgosh!!! You couldnt have said it better!! I so so agree!!! I don't understand why women like to base all their happiness on a guy! I feel like a guy should be a cherry on a cake. Even if there isn't a cherry, we still have the cake right? :) With that being said, it's nice to share life with someone who understands you, but one shouldn't base their entire life on them. I loved what you wrote, and omg, Launna! You have a potential guy at the moment!! Please tell me moreeee about it!!!! I am so so happy and excited for you!! <3

  64. Hi Launna! As soon as I read your comment on my blog I knew I HAD to come here ;) I'm SO happy for you, I understand this is still nothing serious as he still has to prove some things but the fact that you've met a nice guy who you can spend time with is amazing. I completely agree on this whole thing of "felling lucky because someone loves you" as we weren't worth enough to love so we have to feel literally lucky that someone dates us. It's a sad thought, really.
I think the key is the word you said: equal. In all the aspects of a relationship there should be equality. You already know your worth and you will choose wisely. I'm so excited for you and I wish you the best!!! If it's meant to be it will be ;)

I'm with you 100%. i'm grateful for monsieur too, but it's my life, and ultimately I'm the only one responsible for it. he adds to it, no doubt about it, but sometimes he also makes it harder. and that's ok. that's life. and how it should be. I hope I can keep this attitude. none of this is permanent. and who knows, maybe we become needier again in the future too. it's something to be vigilant about. xoxo

  79. Hi Launna, You always say the most truthful and inspirational things. I agree with you that we should love ourselves and not depend on others to make us feel loved and be happy because of it. And that self-worth quote? I totally love that! You know, when you told me about dating someone and taking it slow, I was sooooooooo excited for you. Yes, take it slow and enjoy the process w/o holding expectations so that you would always be happy and not be disappointed should anything goes wrong. You deserve a really good man for your really good heart!

I'm also busy with exercising and I love it. Working out could really get addictive but I see the difference and feel the difference. I love all the sore muscles and I feel more toned. I wish you all the best in your exercise regime. Oh yes, I've replied to your comments but I won't be pasting them here so do check back. Have a good weekend!
