Rising Above The Pain

I had a dream last week that was unnerving... one because I actually dreamed (I rarely sleep long enough to get to the dream stage), two because I woke up twice and went back to the same dream and third it wasn't a pleasant dream... yet I learned something that really made me think... which then had me considering all the trials and challenges I have had to deal with in my life. I actually felt different about them.

I think many times after getting through a trial where I am finally able to breathe and have gratitude that it is over... I never really looking at what it might have been teaching me, never really seeing the good that may have come from it... just knowing it made me stronger. The dream made me think of the worst possible scenario that could happen in my life, hence why I wasn't thrilled that I kept going back it...
The next day I was watching a program on TV that had two people who had gone through a great loss, much like the one I had dreamed of... the first person could not get passed it, they were angry and said that although they had gone on with their lives, they were sure that it would always leave a dark cloud over them... The second person suffered a huge loss too but they chose to look for the good and became the best person they could, they went on to do wonderful things with their life.

I cannot judge the first person as I am not her and I did not go through what she did but it made me think of the many difficult trials that I have dealt with and what I had learned from each of them... If my life had been different and some of them had not happened, I would not be who I am today... I would not have learned some very important lessons. What I learned from that dream was that no matter what trial or challenge befalls me, I have to get up and never give up.
Which then made me think of how I lost 'him' out of my life and where I would be if I had not... I began to think how I took the pain I had from losing 'him' and put it into exercising with my whole heart. Every time I would feel any sadness I would go out for a walk ... I became healthier than I have ever been, If I had not lost 'him' the way I did I probably wouldn't have kept up with it when I got close to my goal as I never did before, this time was different ...

I have seen two people go through the same awful trial, one rose above it and found their purpose, the other one lived in their sadness and never grew... Yes we have all had unthinkable challenges that we could continually question 'Why me'? ... No matter what it is, someone else has gone through it and rose above it... Regardless of what the pain is, it is teaching us something we need to learn... I had to decide to learn the lesson so that I can rise above the pain...

  1. Asking 'why me' gets us nowhere, because we may never find out. I dream every single night, and very vivid dreams! Some good, some not so good, and when I wake up sometimes it takes me a bit of time to come out of the dream, and I remember most of the details, too.

  3. this reminds me of the old question, one million or go back in time and fix all your mistakes, what would you do. I'd take the money. not because I'm such a shallow person or care about material things, but because my past mistakes make me who I am today, and I'm ok with that, even though on many days not more than that. it's sometimes hard to rise above the challenge. sometimes it takes years. and I like to think that the first person, the one with the cloud hanging above her, can get there too. she may or she may not. lets send lots of love her way xoxo

  4. Dear Launna, I totally agree with you. Every cloud has a silver lining and we learn from everything. Now you are stronger and can cope with many things. I'm certain you will be happy than ever.

  5. I know what you mean. Although I'm lucky in that I didn't lose people, I had a really tough year, but I'm focusing on learning and forgiving, because otherwise, I'll never be free of it.

  6. We all have a purpose in life and that os to grow, to travel from point A to point B and through yhat journey we meet people, we lose them, we let them gp, we also find outselves in various kinds of circumstances, happy and sad, all of these are part of the journey that makes us unique and helps us grow and evolve. If we get stuck, we stop our journey and our growth. We lose ourself. The people we meet are just a pet pf our journey, they will come and go. It just us on this road, seeing, feeling, experiencing and moving on.

  9. Well, dear Luanna, I think that to learn to see the bright side of any circumstance could be very helpful to react to bad moments.
I think it's like workout, more you exercise, more you became stronger, more you can deal with every trial in life with serenity and hopeful mind.
Don't care too much about dreams, they reflect your mood and woories, so when you are happy and clam you'll make beautiful dreams! I dream everyday and somtimes bad dreams disturb me, but if you don't care they vanish as they came!
Anyway I wish you a lot of beautiful dreams from now on! :)

  10. That's cool about your dreams. Pay attention to them.

I often think it is interesting how people react differently to similar situations. It's interesting how some people get stuck and others don't. there are so many factors involved.

  15. I think it takes a lot of courage and strength to move forward hence many choose to stay bitter and wallow in self pity. It's easier that way because moving forward can sometimes be mistaken as forgetting what happened. I remembered being sorry for myself for almost 4 months until my best friend got so sick of me being so negative that she gave me a severe tongue lashing. She also dragged my ass out and we had a great time chatting, drinking and dancing. She reminded me that the world continued to revolved and only me chose to stop moving along.

I finally found some time to do things I like-I got a new job and also moved, so days have been busy.
I really like this perception on dreams, I've been to some class few months ago and they told us it's got to keep a diary of what we've been dreaming of, maybe later, when we'll be looking back at certain time in our life, we'll be able to explain all our dreams.
Your post also reminded me of this book I'm curently reading, ''The Big Ticket'' from German TV host Meike Winnemuth. She wrote book after winning half a million on TV show and decided to spent a year traveling and discovering different coultures. It is and adventerous book, but it also includes a lot of life values she learned on the way and discovering she could live the life she always wanted, even without that money. It's really nicely written, so you may like to check it out.

Anyway, I wish you all the best. Promise to stop by more regularly, especially now, when I got new computer, that's ectually working :)

    xoxo

  27. Launna, every single one of your wonderful posts show how incredibly amazing and strong you are! Because sharing your thoughts the way you do is so very special. It needs courage and insight and strength. I wish you could see yourself through my eyes because you'd see that you're a wonderful, whole, loved, incredible woman <3
That really sounds like a difficult dream but isn't it mind-blowing how a dream can wake us up and make us see things? I'm learning myself lately that we cannot do anything about what happens to us. Good things and bad things don't always happen because we are the cause, sometimes they just happen. Pain and loss that we experience aren't always to be avoided. We have no choice. But we always have a choice in how we react. We cannot change the situation, we cannot change the pain. But as the Dalai Lama says: We decide if we suffer from the pain. And boy is he right. You are making one step after the other towards healing. Keep up this amazing path. You will arrive! And you inspire us all to share our thoughts and to learn and grow together. Launna, you are deeply appreciated for who you are. Thank you <3

The ups and downs of life do shape us, we do not know what will be around the corner and we must walk on to find out ...

My best wishes to you - I hope the month of November will be a good and kind one for you.

  30. Sometimes I stop and think about the lessons I am supposed to be learning from certain things that happen. I think it helps to cross the hurdle when I look at the problem as a lesson (not that this is always possible, I know there are many things that happen to people that they may not be able to look at this way). I am sorry you kept returning to such a bad dream, but it sounds like it helped you work out some of your thoughts which is very important. Thanks for sharing. :)

  32. Happy November Launna! Sometimes it is scary to have such intense dreams, but the nice part is knowing they are only dreams (when they're bad ones) as you wake up. You are so strong to rise above too as you have in the quote. And the TV show with the 2 personalities sounds so interesting...I wonder if I could watch it on Hulu here in Europe. :) Hope you're doing well!!

  39. So true. I've been studying people who succeeded in business, and although it may sound different, it's not. Those who built up giant, successful corporations faced failure after devastating failure before ever seeing the light of success, and sometimes even after finding a modicum of it. We all have the choice to rise from the ashes and try again, or become an ash creature.

  41. I completely agree with you, dear Launna. As I've said before in one of my latest comments, we cannot change or control some of the things that happen to us but we do have the control of how we react to those things. The truth is, when something terrible happens, the world doesn't stop for us, life goes on and only WE have the power of rising from that awful situation, no one else do.
Hope you're having a great week, Launna!
