I had a bit of a rough week as I would think I was healing and then I would re-injure my leg again, I finally ended up seeking out a physio therapist and decided that no matter how much I want to exercise, I am not going to be able to for a while. I have been given the green light to walk some, just shorter lengths and much slower... this has been pretty difficult for me, however; I think it has given me the time to reflect...
I have a way of using things so that I don't have to think, I am sure we all do it to some degree. We all have our ways of coping when we don't want to deal with what is in front of us. I kept giving myself permission to do whatever I wanted, why not I asked myself? Besides, it's Christmas, a very hard time of the year for me and I know for many others as well... I thought why not just let everything slide for the rest of month and then get back on track?
I have to say I am good at telling myself I have the right to do what I want, haven't I been diligent and put in so much effort to follow my dreams? What was wrong with cutting myself some slack? I realized that I was hurting myself by not holding myself accountable and I began to question why? I wondered why I was going to let Christmas do me in and take control of me? ... I am worth more than giving in...
I had an incident happen late last night that opened my eyes and made me really reflect, a person that is always trying to make everything look perfect showed their true colors last night... they showed they are insecure, unhappy and not at peace and yet profess to have what they want... at least they think they do... Believe me when I say, I am well aware that no one has a perfect life, I just wonder why some people try to make it look that way? ... I am past that phase of wanting everyone to think I have it all together...
The mind is funny thing, at least mine is... I honestly don't believe in living in the past, it can't take me into the future, it will only bring more sadness, trying to figure out why some things didn't work out as I had hoped for and planned. Am I still sad about the disappoints and losses, I won't lie, I am... but allowing myself to crumble because of a person, an incident, a failed dream or a challenge will never bring me joy either. Reflections can be a good thing from time to time... they can be reminders of how far I have come...

So true, we all need to reflect from time to time. At times we find that we know well enough what we are doing won't help us in any way and yet we put aside this instinct and carry on anyway. To have the courage to to listen and follow our instinct is matter of choice.
ReplyDeleteI was away for long and I missed so many beautiful posts here. Soon I am going to read all those. Self reflection is the process of learning. Nice to read. Have a great day.

Your words always keep me inspiring!! I have been missing your posts as I rarely get "ME" time now with two kids but will try to be on track soon!! Hope you are doing great <3
ReplyDeleteI was recently told by someone how I seem to have it all together. It's a huge surprise for me! I'm held together by thoughts of the past somedays I think. It is important to adopt a future looking life philosophy.

You're a warrior Launna,It's true what you said, "I am worth more than giving in..." Never give in. Never give up. Live your best life. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteI hear you. I know how you feel about people pretending to have a "perfect life" - I mean, what's the point? Anyway, have a great week ahead :)
ReplyDeletePatrick | www.nevernotinspired.de
I've spent time looking inward the past few weeks too. If there's one thing I've come to realize is that life is impermanent. Beauty fades, jobs go away, health can be fleeting as we age. All we have is the present. How we choose to live right here and now makes all the difference in the world.
ReplyDeleteI agree, there is no point in living in the past but at the same time we can't deny our past either as it makes us into who we are today.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good post. Lots of good reflections here. I think it is good to give ourselves leeway sometimes, but it has to be balanced out with accountability and self-honesty.
ReplyDeleteI hope your leg is feeling better. xoxo
While it is probably way before your time your post made me think of the Virginia Slim commercials from 1978 - "You've come a long way baby!" and you have and I know it isn't always easy or fun but nothing good ever is easy. Just know you have friends who support you. Hang in there my friend!
ReplyDeleteSorry about your leg, Launna. About that person, nobody is perfect and those who show off are the most imperfect of all. I wish a happy week, you deserve it.

Lovely words, another great job Launna, your posts are always so inspiring!!!

First of all, I'm sorry to hear your injuries but please, please give it time to heal properly. I know the frustration but you do need to rest and let it heal. And secondly, I am so done with people who try to show everyone and their dog that their life is perfect. Why bother being so fake, why want to put up a show to others? That alone shows me how insecure the person is. I am not afraid of showing my vulnerability, it's what makes me human and it also keeps me grounded knowing that life can never be 100% perfect.

Dear Launna,
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your leg. In this period I have to cope with a man at work that makes my life difficult, even today. He's always critizing me whatever I do. Nevertheless I try to be calm.
I wish your leg improve and I wish that you can walk a little, it's so helpful.
A big hug from Italy :)

Dear Launna, I think you definitely need a breack to you program to get a better yourself: maybe you are too strict or you pushed yourself too much but it's pretty clear that your body need rest! So don't worry too much and take it easy! Rest, enjoy your holidays and recharge your batteries, in no time you'l back on track stronger than before!
ReplyDeleteAnd don't feel disappoint with yourself, you did so much! Don't think to the past or the future: the past is in the past, the future in unwritten, you have a stronger yurself on rely on now, so enjoy the moment and don't worry!
And never compare your life with others: nobody is perfect or has a perfect life, but someone is more good then others to hide his flaws! ;)

Excellent point about how some reflections will not bring you joy. So why would we worry ourselves over the past and the things we can't change. There are the things that we've grown from that we can reflect back on and think I overcame that. I can overcome this too.
ReplyDeleteLaunna, I think we all give in to taking the easy way out way more than we should. Being able to recognize that we are doing it and then change our course is the key. At least you are able to recognize it. Many people do not. Hope you have a great week ahead of you.
ReplyDeleteReflections ... taking time to think, can be useful.
ReplyDeleteReflect on the positive, rather than the negative ...
Please take care with your leg, mend well ... and then continue!
Have a blessed, and peaceful week
All the best Jan
Sooner or later, true colors shine through.... and reflection is a healthy and revealing thing. I hope you are gearing up to have a wonderful holiday season my dear, you deserve it! <3 - http://www.domesticgeekgirl.com
ReplyDeleteDear Launna, take good care of yourself. Reflecting is good, and we also need to focus on the positive as much as possible. Sending you a hug.

I read a quote about how we're comparing our rough drafts to everyone else's finished works. It's easy to look at the shell of people's lives and assume things are grand. We all struggle. It's part of our mortal experience. No matter how happy or set a person is, they have hidden sorrows and trouble.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping you heal up quickly. After this last delivery, it took me almost 8 months to recover from a hip injury--baby induced. I'm still not completely past it, but we get there, right? One day at a time.
So sorry about your leg. All the best.

Amen! I honestly can't stand when people try to put on a facade and act like their life is all honkey dorey. Why be fake when at the end of the day you have to look at yourself in the mirror and know how life really is. Maybe it comes with age but I will be the first one to admit I am not perfect and neither is my life.
ReplyDeleteBEAUTETUDE
This is the biggest problem with social media - people putting on a facade, and then everyone else thinking they don't measure up. So sorry you've got some injuries - take care of yourself, and you'll be back in no time.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am a fashion blogger I am super unsecure and sometimes I don't feel sexy. I don't have a perfect life. I can understand you. xoxo

There is a quote from The Lion King that I thought of as I was reading this post: "The past can hurt. But the way I see it you can either run from it or learn from it." I think it is important not to dwell in the past, as you mentioned it will only bring on sadness!

Preach it Launna!
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% with you, sadly, people don't necessarily think that they need to "real" and I believe the notion of putting on a facade had actually been the expected way of life, the "conservative " way of life. I do still believe that this new wave of "owning your weakness" and letting it show to motivate others and let them know you are real is truly a more bohemian, free-spirited type of modern day thinking/pattern, :).
I agree that it is important to live in the present. I am sorry to hear that you can't exercise like you would like to right now, but I am glad you are taking the time to reflect. When we take a step back we can often see things more clearly. You are always such an inspiration, Launna! :) Hope you are having a good week!
ReplyDelete~Jess
I like your current perspective and agree that reflecting can be very useful, when we become mindful of how our thinking can stop us from making our dreams a reality. I read once that unhappiness stems from living in the past, or worrying about what the future will bring. The solution is to focus on the present because it is the only thing we have control of. Sounds so simple, but sometimes difficult to do. Trying to be mindful of my own thoughts and how they affect me helps me snap back into reality, into the NOW. I am a much happier person because of this. I wish you a speedy recovery and good thoughts always.
ReplyDeleteMuch Love,

Hi Launna, how are you? I hope your leg is better...
ReplyDeleteI'm back on the blog :)
Wish you a happy happy weekend! xxx

I hope you get better soon and be able to exercise, I remember how much you love it from what you wrote.
ReplyDeleteI think Christmas is a flashback time for all of us, the year is ending and sudenlly we all see what stayed undone and how many plans and projects never came to life. I realized and learned a lot this year, but it was one of most unsucesful in a while, I feel like I've done almost nothing and just let it slipped by, while waiting for some dreams to come true.
It's nice to look back and remember, but hanging on past to much is just way disturbing. And that's what I do all the time, keep thinking of what could have been and how it should have happen, but I never get courage to go and fix it now.
I hope you get better soon and that your plans and ideas will work out as you hoped. I also hope you'll be able to enjoy christmas time, even if you connect it with bad memories. Just look at all the beautiful lights, that are suddenly hanging everywhere and lightning dark winter afternoons, hope it makes you happy.
Have a wonderfull time, wish you all the best!
Danny
I totally agree with you
ReplyDeleteReflections can be a good thing from time to time... they can be reminders of how far I have come...
I love that sentence and it says exactly what I think so too!!!! Some people think they have to act like their life is perfect, even though they are sitting home and sad at night! Why aren´t they able to be honest and to talk about problems...I dont understand it!!
I pray for you and hope that your leg will be fine soon!! Take your time to be ina good shape for the next year!!
Thank you for this inspiring post! It made me thinking about me and the way I think about Christmas. I dont like Christmas as well!!!
Im proud how fare you´ve come!!!

ReplyDeleteGreat postas always dear
Wow, I truly loved that Nelson Mandela's quote you shared. I'm sorry to hear about your leg, and I'm sending you from here my best wishes for a quick recovery. You're doing something wonderful by using this time to look back and see how much you've grown, and what's more important, to determine not to give up to your dreams. I admire you capability of seeing the obstacles as challenges and be brave enough to go for them. Stay strong, my friend!

I like your reflection this week, another chance to grow and see things for how they are. Sorry about the injury, the light walking is good and the rehabbing will be great for it.
ReplyDeleteAs for those who try to put others down or make it seem like they have it all, they are either jealous, trying to keep up appearances or are also hurting underneath and would rather project an illusion.
I hope the physical terrorist helps your leg improve faster. (Yeah, I said terrorist... the one who helped with with my shoulder sure was...)
ReplyDeleteDon't be too hard on people who act as though their lives are perfect. My life has never been perfect, but I have always maintained an optimistic front. I figure, if I project it, the true feelings will follow. And they have. My life may not be perfect, but I am perfectly happy. :)
I love these quotes ! I hope you get well soon !

We definitely all have meltdowns every once in a while, so it's okay. And you are so right, no one has a perfect life. we all have things that we are dealing with at any point in time. I'm so glad you are not allowing the season or past experiences to do you in. They help shape us into the strong individuals that we presently are so to an extent we stay grateful to those experiences. Sending love dearest Launna and hoping the rest of your week is wonderful.
